The Only Two Valid Options to Deal With the Rise of AI
In this article, I will show you the primary strategy to deal with the rise of AI.
If you follow this strategy, you have the best chances to set yourself up for success despite any changes.
Are we in agreement that AI is coming like a wave?
If so, you should listen closely. If not, you should even listen more closely.
Imagine we are all surfing on a rather calm ocean with nice little waves.
Everyone of us has found his or her spot to surf, and we're all riding along.
Now, there is a new kind of wave coming, much bigger, and chances are that the waves will become even significantly bigger.
What does this mean for us who are used to smaller waves?
Strategically, we only have two options.
Option one, learn how to ride the big waves. Option two, leave the water.
We do not have an option three, which is to deny that the waves will be bigger and therefore just move on like always. Because if we choose this non-existent option and the waves indeed do become bigger, we will just be wiped away by them. The reason is clear: the waves have become huge and we have not learned to ride them. What do you think will happen? This leaves us with the option to either learn to ride them or leave the water.
What does it mean to learn riding the coming AI waves? Basically, it means to have on my radar what is happening, to start trying and testing the new AI capabilities, and to keep my finger on the pulse of what this AI development means for my own little universe. By following this strategy, it could still happen that the waves are getting so big that I will just be smashed away, but at least I have the chance to see it coming, and I have the chance to ride the wave for longer, and maybe even to sustain.
How does the option look to leave the water? In this option, I head towards an environment or an industry which is not affected by the coming AI waves, or at least less affected. Any activity that includes a huge degree of physical activity falls into this place. Focusing on a trade or anything with a strong physical component will keep me far better shielded against AI developments.
Just look at the highly digital jobs like software developer or writer; they are most directly exposed to the coming waves, and we see the effects already today. But do you think that bothers the plumber or HVAC technician around the corner? Not really. In our town they are upgrading to BMW.
So, moving as far as possible away from this is a viable option.
Do you see any other option besides either leaning heavily into the AI thing or getting far out of it?
I really believe that the middle ground will be just about wiped out.
What do you think?
